From Brunch with the Girls to Date Night with your Valentine-It’s ALL about Lace

Hello lovely friends!

As January is almost coming to a close and Valentine’s day is just around the corner I wanted to use this opportunity to introduce you to two looks brought together by my love for lace. I like to wear lace for any occasion–it is boho chic and sophisticated all at the same time, could be delicate andย  soft or edgy and fashion-forward!

Lace originated sometime in the 15th century. Historians debate whether its birth place is Milan, Italy or an area in Belgium. By the late 16th century lace became very popular in the world of fashion and home decor. It was used to enrich the beauty of cuffs and collars and was made from linen, silk, even gold and silver!

I have chosen two of my favorite lace dresses to share with you–a cream cotton lace beauty perfect for a brunch with the girls, and a black lace on tan base BEBE dress for a romantic date night with your sweets!

Why is this cream lace dress perfect (similar here, here and here) for a brunch date with your friends? I have to admit I have worn this dress on numerous occasions. It is very suitable as a day dress as it is made from cotton and its color is sure to attract attention with its quiet beauty. I like the boho feel it lends itself to when you pair it with brown leather accessories – high boots (Nine West) or booties (Lucky Brand), a thin belt (Banana Republic – similar here and here) and this Lucky Brand Saddle Bag. Isn’t there something special about leather and lace playing together to create an outfit? Hard and soft, feminine and masculine, intertwined in a beautiful combo. On a cooler winter day you can add a brown or camel leather jacket, for spring or fall pair it with a denim one and you still keep warm while looking chic!

Now let’s reveal my date night outfit. This BEBE beauty (similar here and here) is your little black dress with a twist–the layering of black lace over a nude base gives it quite a bit of visual interest and the extra ruffle of lace at the waist adds to the femininity of the silhouette. The top is a bit more conservative, but the length shows off your legs. I feel like a dress should always provide a top to bottom balance. What do I mean by that? You either have a more relieving top portion of the dress OR it is shorter in length. A short dress with a plunging neckline may leave little to the imagination and take away from the class of the outfit, so I would pick one or the other, but not both at the same time. I styled this LBD with a pair of red suede Banana Republic pumps, a leather clutch (LOVE this BOTKIER option that doubles up as a shoulder bag as well), a BEBE fitted dress coat (similar here andย  here – thicker and sure to keep you warm on Valentine’s day!), and a red lip color (MAC)!

So whether it is brunch with the girls or date night with your sweets LACE IT UP and enjoy!

My friend Melany took on this topic as well. Please visit her YouTube Channel and enjoy the great outfit choices she selected for brunch and a date night – enjoy!

Happy dress up, beauties!

Love always,
