Daytime Wedding

Hello lovelies,

Do I hear wedding bells? Yes, with summer comes wedding season and beautiful white dresses that we all want to wear all day, every day… But is it against the rules to be a wedding guest and wear a white dress? After all white and ivory are reserved for the bride and it is her day to shine. If you know the bride is more traditional I would recommend that you opt out of white and choose a pretty dress in a different color – blush is beautiful and still going strong this season, yellow is always cheerful and another great color for a summer day wedding, and mint green is soft and sophisticated – just to list a few.

However, if you know your bride is not one to care for the rules and has chosen a more contemporary approach to her wedding, then perhaps you can step into your white dress and enjoy her special day! Here are a few rules to help you make the right choice:

  1. Would the bride be in white or ivory?
  2. Do you know the bride well enough to ask her what she thinks of you white dress?
  3. Does your white dress look like something you would wear to your wedding shower?
  4. Is your dress made from lace, tulle, or any other fabric that resembles a wedding gown?
  5. Is your dress floor-length?

If you answer to questions 1, 3, 4, and 5 was “YES”, then think twice. If your answer to 2 was “YES”, then take a photo of your dress and share it with the bride.

Should you have decided to be wear white, the White Hollow Out Flounce Hem Midi Dress by Metisu is pure PERFECTION!! Why do I think so:

  5. The line of the dress is so elegant and sophisticated.ootd_in_style METISU White Midi Dress, Sam Edelman, BCBG, Raymond Weil, Polaroid, Wedding
  6. This dress does not need jewelry – it speaks for itself. All you can add are some pearl earrings and a ring.
  7. The lace is not floral in pattern and hence does not resemble a bridal dress lace fabric.ootd_in_style METISU White Hollow Out Flounce Hem Midi Dress Detail, Wedding, Nordstrom Saleootd_in_style METISU White Hollow Out Flounce Hem Midi Dress, Nordstrom Saleootd_in_style METISU White Hollow Out Flounce Hem Midi Dress, Wedding, Nordstrom Sale, Polaroid Round Sunglasses
  8. It pairs up perfectly with any bag – depending on the occasion! I chose this Sam Edelman navy and grey clutch with a silver chain as the rest of my jewels were silver. ootd_in_style METISU White Hollow Out Flounce Hem Midi Dress, Nordstrom Sale, Wedding, Sam Edelman Clutch, BCBG Shoes
  9. It is easy to put together with any heels! I chose a pair of BCBG peep toes in a navy, green, grey and white print, one I believe a bride would not wear with her wedding dress (in an effort not to look bridal.) This pair also matched up the clutch rounding off my accessories nicely.  ootd_in_style METISU White Hollow Out Flounce Hem Midi Dress BCBG Peet Toes, Weddingootd_in_style METISU White Hollow Out Flounce Hem Midi Dress, Nordstrom Sale, Polaroid Round Sunglassesootd_in_style METISU White Hollow Out Flounce Hem Midi Dress (11)

Hello lovelies,

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend and celebrating either being a mommy or with your precious mama!

Generally, I shy away from bright colors and bringing more than one of those into a neutral color palette. The Amelia dress from Cuddy Studios changed my mind and made me jump against all the rules. I fell in love with it’s kites pattern and color play–it is so bright and cheerful! It actually inspired me to experiment with my accessories as well and here I am pairing this A-line, flirty pink trim dress with a pink peep toe shoe (similar here) and an amazing Vince Comuto green-blue bag (similar here)! All these vibrant colors remind me of cotton candy and put a smile on my face!

As I wore my Amelia dress this morning I also realized it would have been perfect for the time I was an expecting mommy-to-be. It is so light and airy and would not push on your tummy but rather provide enough space for a cute growing baby!

The LWD – Spring Perfection!

Hello lovelies,

Happy May! I am so excited to share this post with you!! This week I am introducing you to Hanna and Simone–both extremely pretty and a perfect “partner in crime” for this season as well as summer!

Cuddy Studios White Lace Hannah Dress, banana Republic Skinny Belt, Lucky Brand Emmy Flats, Aviators, Lucky Brand Saddle Bag (16)Bell Sleeved White Lace Dress, Aldo Heels, Banana Republic Skinny Belt, Botkier Handbag (1)

Those of you who have followed me for a while know that I am a total fan of lace. I also adore white, so a pretty white lace dress makes this woman very happy! Cuddy Studios made two such dresses that caught my eye, namely Hannah and Simone (I even love the names and had considered one of them when it was time to name my little princess)!

Hannah is a tank dress made out of a white floral lace fabric. It’s wide neckline and scooped back make it perfect for hot spring and even hotter summer days! The back has the cutest adjustable, delicate tie detail, which adds more visual interest and a fun twist. I also like the cut of this dress – you can add a belt to it for waist definition or just let it flow for a 60’s free spirit feel. I wore this dress with both heels and flats and enjoyed the more casual or a bit dressier option those added to the outfit.

Simone attracted me with its white holographic-feel, laser-cut diamond fabric and flattering A-line silhouette. It’s bell sleeves add a boho chic flavor to this classy dress! Just like the Hannah, Simone can be worn to a casual weekend brunch or paired with heels for a date night or a night out with the girls. I wore it with a skinny watermelon belt, watermelon heel and bag which complemented the dress and added a pop to the outfit.

Citrus, rose, sandalwood and musk!

Hello, lovely readers!

Did you know that our sense of smell helps up enjoy our food, but also has the ability to evoke emotions and awaken certain memories? Just a whiff of cologne or perfume can send you down Memory Lane, remind you of a friend, you favorite uncle or the boy you had a high school crush on–no matter how far in the past that may have been.

I am one of those girls that enjoys having a good perfume at hand and appreciates a smell that amuses the senses in a gentle, fresh manner. Sooooo, in today’s post I would like to share with you my favorite scents.

French and Italian perfumes tend to have my heart. I do like some American designers’ scents as well, however I have found that those are not as long-lasting as the old world’s fashion houses’.

Without further ado, here are my top 5 scents for women:

#5 Chanel – COCO Mademoiselle – with high notes of fresh orange, followed by may rose and grasse jasmine, and base notes of patchouli and vetiver, this scent is fresh and memorable with a twist of oriental sensuality!

#4 Tom Ford – White Patchouli – just used up the last drops in my bottle and really loved the woody notes in this scent. Those are accented by the gentle smell of white flowers pairing up to create one bohemian scent olfactory beauty!

#3 Prada – Infusion D’Iris – drove me crazy till I figured out what this perfume was. A new boss began working at my office years ago, I loved her perfume, but did not feel comfortable asking her what it was. One day I decided to go to Nordstrom and just sniff all perfumes till I found it… luckily before my nose got complete sensory overload.  Oh what joy it was to finally figure it out!

This sent awakens your senses with high notes of mandarin, galbanum, orange and orange blossom, the mid-notes are those of cedar, iris and vetiver, and the base of incense and benzoin. Some people find it a bit powdery, but it makes me feel fresh and light.

#2 Chloe – Chloé Eau de Parfum – this is Chloe’s signature scent and I have been stopped and asked what I am wearing on numerous occasions, despite the fact that this perfume feels really light to me. It has that unforgettable and unique scent that combined the high notes of pink peony, freesia, and lychee, with the middle notes of magnolia flower, lily of the valley, and rose, and the base of cedarwood, amber, and honey. It truly is a famine delight to the olfactory sense.

#1 Cartier -‘Baiser Volé’  – In translations that is “Stolen Kisses” and I LOVE both the Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette options. This is one of the scents that captured my heart and screamed my name the moment I brought my nose to it–it was love at first sniff! Hehe! This scent is purely floral and combines only the notes of lily petals and green lily leaves yet it has a fresh, floral and powdery quality all at the same time. Just give it a sniff and it will steal your heart!

If you are looking for a new scent I hope you can draw some inspiration from this post and have an olfactory delight finding the one!

Love Always,

Hello Wild Thing!

Hello lovely people,

We are in the midst of winter season! Can you believe it? Do you feel like you are stuck in the world of neutrals or the black zone when it comes to winter outfits? I sure am guilty as charged! No matter what I do I end up having too many black garments all combined into a monochrome look that I rotate from December trough the end of March and I just can’t seem to break free from that habit.

This week I have been trying to wear more of my winter dresses and it dawned on me–animal print is a great way to spice up the winter wardrobe! It make me feel more vibrant, chic and “wild”! It provides a pattern for the eye to enjoy and a pop for the outfit to stand out, even if the pattern is only in the neutral color palette.

I tend to have all my animal print on dresses, but I think an animal print sweater or pair of shoes would have an equally powerful effect in refreshing your winder style.

The Coat That Keeps on Giving

Hello lovelies,

Since it feels like winter even in LA right now, I decided to dedicate this post to a classic piece that any woman would appreciate having in her wardrobe (or better yet–on her back!!) for the winter months of the year–the classic wool coat!

INC International Concepts Double-Breasted Car Coat, Only at Macy's
Double-Breasted Car Coat

I like wool coats of any length, as long as those have a tailored silhouette which helps your figure stand out rather than look engulfed in a sea of fabric and bulk. Love the white-with-black-piping option above–a classic with a fun twist! However, if I were to invest in ONLY one I would pick a coat that is as versatile as possible. To me that means one that has length suitable for pants, skirts, and dressed. I would pick a coat that hits me right at the knee or slightly above it, as my work dresses usually have similar length and I dislike those peaking too much from underneath the coat’s hem.

MICHAEL Michael Kors Wool-Blend Belted Peacoat
MK Wool-Blend Belted Peacoat

Some bonuses:

  • You would wear your classic coat to the office.
  • If you can work this coat into your work week selection, why not use it on the weekends too? Wool coats pair up nicely with jeans and leggings too, so you can have yours keeping you cozy on a Saturday or Sunday as well!
  • A longer coat, means a longer warmer layer, and therefore cozier you!
  • It is January and a lot of stores are trying to get rid of as much merchandise as possible, so you can purchase your coat at a reasonable price and have a classic that will serve you well for years to come!

Here are the two coats I have purchased and enjoyed:

I have owned the black (Zara, similar here) for three years and the camel (Kenneth Cole, similar here) for four, and I have to admit I wear both all the time from December trough to March!

Have you delved into the wool coat world yet? I hope you would enjoy doing so!

Love Always,

Leap of faith into BOOTIES land!

Hello lovelies,

You may have noticed that I have developed a bootie addiction recently… Ahhhhh! I have to admit, I have vowed not to purchase any more of those, but this is the first season I am taking a leap into the land of booties. I have always liked the appearance of those, but did not think they looked very elegant on my legs. This fall/winter I decided to give booties a try and span a tad bit out of control—hehe! I love all five pairs I purchased and all for a different reason:

  1. The Lucky Brand Linnea Booties started it all! I loved the fact that they came in this unique brindle color, were suede, and had a pointy, yet not super pointy front, making them suitable for both jeans and dresses or skirts. The studs were an added bonus as those gave the eye a bit more to enjoy! BTW, January sales are in full swing and these “firestarter” booties are currently on sale for $67.49
  2. The Lucky Brand Leeir Studded Bootie – those were the last of my splurge, but they got me good as I decided to purchase both a black and a java pair. OK, where do I begin with these… First of all they are a mix of leather and suede, the stacked heel screams “Comfort!”, and the combination of those studs and zippers is surely a show-stopper!! The black pairs up nicely with the silver metal accents, and the java jives oh-so-well with the gold. I just could not resist their temptation! And… Guess what? It is your lucky day because those are on sale for $72.49! Are you in love?! ❤
  3. The Lorry Bootie – classy and clean, these leather booties have a pointed toe and a bit more of a Western edge, which makes them the perfect suitor for a pair of jeans or a hobo-inspited dress. Added bonus–you can wear them in the rain or snow and not worry about them being ruined! These beauties cost $67.49 and also come in black.
  4. And last but not least, the Ceder Western-Inspired Booties – I opted out for the natural suede as the color appealed to me. I loved the detail, one that in not in your face! The 1 1/2″ heel and padded insoles sure proved comfortable. Those booties pair up very nicely with a trench coat and jeans, or a pair of leggings and a comfy oversized sweater. The Ceder Western Booties are currently on sale for $69.99 with an additional 20% off over at Nine West. Cedar Western-Inspired Booties

So here it is–a round-up of my booties splurge! Have you recently purchased up a storm if a new type of piece for your wardrobe?

Happy January SALES shopping, y’all!

Love Always,

Your Favorite Dress–Any Season

Happy New Year, lovelies!!

Wishing you all a year of health, happiness, success, and unforgettable adventures! 😄

If you have followed me for a while you know that I love a good sheath dress. I find those beautifully classy, with a quiet, yet confident voice of style appropriate for a day in the office, a night out to see a musical or just share dinner with friends.

I am also a fan of details–piping, pockets, color blocking, and when those are strategically placed they could really make a dress one that you don’t want to take off.

The above is exactly how I feel about this white Calvin Klein number. It is so simple, yet the beautifully placed black leather side detail grabs your eyes and aids your waistline in looking slender as it gives you a slim, classy silhouette.

But enough about my love for this dress. I am sure you guys feel the same about one, or a few, you own. So, can we make our favorite dresses work for us even at winter time?? Absolutely!! I discovered this trick on a winter business trip when I did not believe that only my dress, a pair of tights and a wool coat would do the trick and keep me from freezing. So what is it that you need to keep yourself warm and comfortable while wearing your dress:

In the photos, I am not wearing my coat as we had some beautiful weather the day we shot these, but the one linked above is pretty similar to what I wear to finish of the look and stay comfortably warm!

Sooooo, let’s not abandon our favorite dresses till the summer and make those work any time we so desire!

Have a successful week, beauties!

Love Always,

Simply Denim!

Hello darlings!

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, cozied up next to your loved ones, celebrating with family and friends, receiving Santa’s best, indulging in some delicious bites and holiday cheer!

Now that we are in the stretch between Christmas and New Years, I feel like just wearing something comfy to the office. Most people are taking this time off, but for those who are back to the grind this week, I suggest dressing in something that makes you feel relaxed & comfy, and is still appropriate for work. Allowed to wear jeans at your office? You are all set then! Just dive into the world of denim & leather (one of my favorite combinations) and cruise trough the day in  ease with a pinch of western flair.

I decided to do just that with this denim on denim look! To show off these toffee Lucky Brand Lorry Booties (which are SUPER comfy BTW), I rolled up my Lucky Brand Lolita Jeans, to give this Western Metal Belt a center stage, I tucked in a denim CK shirt (similar here) and just added my favorite saddle bag and Calvin Klein Soft Tortoise sunglasses. Doesn’t that spell a comfortable 9-hour office stay?

So go on working troopers, make these few days between the holidays some that make you feel just as relaxed as if you were to go out on the weekend or stay home on your couch! 😉

Love Always,

Travel Light, Warm, and Still in Style

Hi guys,

With Christmas around the corner and many people traveling home for the holidays, I thought it would be useful to share my favorite winter life-saver items that are light, warm, and chic at the same time.

I recently traveled to San Francisco and boy was it a cold weekend there!! California winters are nothing compared to those most people face, but the temperatures were definitely a bit lower than I am comfortable with. Despite the weather, I did not want to abandon my dresses (love this Max Studio lace one and wanted to wear it to brunch one of the days–similar here, here and here) or ripped jeans and the ability to feel chic, yet not frozen. Soooo, I reached out to the types of items that had served me well during a January trip to London last year:

  • I love wearing knee-length wool coats as those are so elegant and go with everything–dresses, pants, skirts, jeans… Only one problem–wool coats don’t fair too well in the wind or rain. I have to admit I did not really want to wear anything else, as I found most other winter jackets bulky and boxy. However, this Calvin Klein down jacket changed my mind (love this white option currently available at 50% off)! It is stylish, very light, yet the down keeps you warm, and the shell material can protect you from all winter weather elements. Added bonus–this jacket can be housed in a tiny bag as it compresses a lot, so it is also a space-saver.
  • OTK boots–cute, modish and double up as a second or third layer to keep your legs protected up and over your knees. I love this Nine West pair (on sale now with extra 20% off at checkout) as the heel is not too high making them comfortable for traveling and exploring a new city for hours! BTW, those are not too hard to take off for when you are passing TSA… 😉
  • Your favorite scarf–I am one to always have a stiff neck when it gets a bit cooler, so I can appreciate a great accessory that will cover my neck, but could also be used to cover your mouth and nose when those need some help against the frost. My neck is in love with this Burberry scarf. It is versatile as its size and pattern are a classic in neutral colors.
  • Leggings–I love a basic black pair. Leggings can be warn with a dress or even as a layer under your ripped jeans for when you don’t want the wind finding its way to your bare legs trough those rips. This Matty M pair is only $15, but sits well and does not fall down as the day goes by.

So go on and enjoy your trip in style and happy Christmas week, everyone!

Love Always,
