How did April manage to sneak up on us?!? But I am super excited for warmer weather and longer days full of sunshine. We have had so much rain this year and are beating all LA precipitation records while staying in low temperature ranges, so I am ready for the sun to make its more permanent appearance.
Speaking of spring vibes this Bow Detail Tweed Tunic Dress from SHEIN is totally speaking my language and helping me welcome the spring in a classic yet fresh style. And yes here is where this post’s title comes into play–boys spruce up their suit pockets by adding a pocket square, but guess what? Us girls can have our own twist on that brilliant idea and use a set of bows to dress up our pockets!! Doesn’t this dress do so in the most subtle, yet noticeable way? By adding the black bow to the top of the pockets and black hemming the sleeves and neckline as well, this simple white dress turns into a feminine yet edgy piece which speaks volumes with simple black and white statements.
Just a few more details on this tunic dress that I love: it is made out of a tweed material which is 80% cotton–the perfect fabric for spring–breathable, yet warm. It is versatile due to its tunic type which allows you to wear it with some leggings on a cooler day. Another aspect that makes this tweed dress very wearable is the simplicity of colors which allow you to pretty much play with any color and pattern accessories. It is elegant and perfect for a day at the office or a date night with your sweetheart. Did I mention that it is only $24?! However if you use code Q2ootdinstyle for 15% off your SHEIN purchase and decrease that price.
Has has your week been thus far? Mine has been a bit nutty… Let’s just say, I am looking forward to the weekend, hehe! 🙂
I was not planning on writing a post today, but putting on this gingham midi dress (VIP.com) in the morning really inspired me. So what is a girl to do but grab her mom away from babysitting duties and ask her to jump into her photographer shoes!
As I was going trough my closet I needed to find something that would work for a day in the office and would transition well to a dinner with a friend I am meeting after. And there is was–my vintage charmer! Why do I say VINTAGE? The dress is brand new but gives me a very 20’s-50’s feel–the shape, the length, the print.
- The Shape – As a matter of fact the term A-line was first introduced by Christian Dior as the label for his spring 1955 collection. The silhouette, as we know it today, was popularized by Yves Saint Laurent three years later. In his spring 1958 line, he showed off dresses which flared out vividly from a fitted shoulder line.
- The Print – Gingham as a checkered pattern originated from the mills of Manchester, England where fabric was woven in a plaid pattern sometime during the 18th sentry.
- The Length – The midi first came on the scene in the 1920’s after WWI was over and before the Great Depression hit. The economy was doing well, the world was out dancing, and ladies replaced their modest Victorian floor-length garments with midi dresses and skirts.
Enough history for now… A bit more of what I like about this dress… The panel detail brings a lot of visual interest, and so does the delicate ruffle around the solid sweetheart portion of the neckline, which continues up into a mesh section around the shoulders and neck. The mesh detailing is also repeated around the high waistline, which creates a nice bodes-like top. The pleats under the waist line add volume and make me want to twirl all day long… I can go on and on…

Can you believe it is already September? This year is flying by so fast and before we know it Fall will be here! Despite the recent California heat wave, I have started prepping my wardrobe for the change of seasons and have lined up items to introduce you to.
For this week’s transitional look, I have partnered with VIP.com to present to you this sweet, A-line, yellow floral dress. Doesn’t it ooze feminine charm?! It captured my attention with it’s gentle floral pattern combining pinks, whites and greens on a lovely mustard-hued background, which allows the pattern to speak in their soft tones. The cut of the dress along with the ruffled, bow-tie sleeves only add to the ladylike character of this dress.
So what is it that makes this dress so suitable for the next few month:
- The mustard yellow color reminds me of the leaves changing color;
- The dress is lined and perfect for cooler days;
- It hits below the knee, which would make it suitable for early Fall days;
- This floral beauty would partner well with a denim or leather jacket.
I decided to pair my new VIP.com find with lace up sandals, round glasses, black panama hat and black leather bag to give it some boho flavor as I was going to brunch in an edgy neighborhood where most people wear interesting statement pieces! I see this dress as a versatile piece as I would switch out the lace-up sandals with black kitten heels and wear it to the office.
